No bed is complete without a black comforter. Selecting the right kind of comforter for your bedroom is very important and can sometimes make bedding shoppers feel lost or confused. The right kind of comforter should match your bedroom and your bed perfectly, but finding one like this is actually much easier said than done. What kind of bedding style do you want? Do you prefer plain bedding or bedding with patterns? There are a wide variety of comforters available today and selecting the right one depends not only on your personal taste but also how much you can afford to spend. Here are some tips to make buying your next comforter super easy.
The first thing you should pay attention to is the actual size of the comforter you need. Double check that the size of the comforter you plan to buy is correct by actually doing the measurements yourself. This might sound like a hassle but the truth is many manufacturers nowadays produce bedding products that are mixed and matched in size. There are no clear rules or agreed upon standards as to how big Queen or King sizes really are. What this means is that you will typically find that sizes are lumped together, such as Full/Queen or King. It is not until you get home that you discover that the King sized comforter you purchased does not fit your King sized bed. Manufacturers that product quality comforters are labeled with their exact finished size. Compare the measurements of the comforter to that of your bed to make sure you get a good fit.

What is the comforter filling like? The majority of comforters on the market today are filled with layers of polyester batting. The loft of the filling will determine how big the comforter is as well as how well it insulates against the cold. You may not like patterns or extra stitching on your comforter, but these can actually help keep the filling inside in place and keep it evenly distributed. There is nothing more annoying than a comforter that has all its filling at one end.
Do you like plain or patterns? If you are the kind of person who likes a little flash and fancy dressmaker details on your bedding, then always keep in mind that if you use your comforter primarily as a blanket, you need to ensure that any buttons and other details are kept as far away from the top of the comforter as possible. There is nothing worse than waking up in the middle of the night with a button or ruffle stuck in your eye.
Something else to keep in mind is that if your house gets very cold in winter but warm in summer, you may want to opt for a comforter that uses a different fabric on either side. One side is thicker and warmer than the other and is meant for winter use. The other is lighter and not as dense, making it great for summer or warmer weather. These kinds of comforters are a little more expensive, but will still work out cheaper than buying two separate ones. Obviously you will need to decide if this would be suitable for where you live depending on how hot or cold it gets during the year.
Can you count threads? Something many people are not be aware of is that the number of threads used per inch in weaving a comforter is important as it directly affects the quality. Higher quality ones have a much higher thread count and this is something you should look for if you want to buy a quality comforter. How high is high enough? Anything over 250 is considered very fine quality and low quality comforters are usually around the 100 to 200 mark. High thread count means the comforter will be much softer and usually last a lot longer. You might have to pay a little more for it but doing so will mean you get a comforter that is much more comfortable to sleep on at night.
